Paolo Sorrentino’s Oscar-winning masterpiece ‘La Grande Bellezza’ (‘The Great Beauty’) was already a riot of luscious visuals and hedonistic sounds. But there was one sense missing: taste.
Lorenzo created an eight-course fine dining menu for four weekly screenings of the film. Each course was timed by the second to take the viewers on a decadent and emotional journey with lead character Jep.
Each dish was served in a box with a title, and an usher signalled the exact moment to eat it. So while Jep remembered his childhood by the sea, the audience dined on tuna tartare with oyster water and squid ink mayonnaise, served in oyster shells. And when a young artist threw yellow paint at a white canvas, the viewers’ teeth bit into a carbonara tortelloni, filled with oozing egg yolk and topped with crisp, salty guanciale.
The event was completely sold out.
